AI Interview Questions

An interview bank with model answers on tokens, cost, prompting, verification, agents and guardrails.

  • 6topics
  • 6lessons

This topic is an interview bank for engineers who use AI tools. Each lesson groups questions by theme and gives what each question tests, a model answer with reasoning, follow-ups and common weak answers.

How to read each entry.
Each bank entry names what is tested, answers with reasoning, then verifies.

Lesson

What it covers

Tokens and context questions

Estimating tokens, context limits, and choosing what stays in context.

Cost estimation questions

Worked job cost from example prices, retries, and cost levers.

Prompting questions

Structured output, examples and reasoning, and debugging a flaky prompt.

Verification questions

Checking assistant output and handling secrets and untrusted content.

Agent questions

When an agent fits, bounding its loop, and approving side effects.

Guardrails and judgment questions

Permissions, human approval, and deciding under uncertainty.

Check yourself An interviewer asks for the cost of a job but gives no prices. What is the first line of a strong answer?

State example prices as explicit assumptions first. Real prices vary by provider and change, so no memorized figure counts; the formula plus substitution is the answer.

Interview

Carry one sentence per lesson: tokens are estimated with tokenizer-dependent rules, cost is formula plus stated assumptions, prompts are debugged by isolation, output is verified not trusted, agents are bounded loops, and risky actions wait for a human.
