Case Studies

Three end-to-end debug stories, each from first symptom to process change: how the evidence pointed, what signoff missed, and what changed afterwards.

  • 3topics
  • 3lessons

Every lesson so far taught one skill in isolation; these three case studies show them combined under schedule pressure. Each is generic and illustrative: no company, no product, no real report is quoted. Read them as worked examples of the method: hypotheses in writing, evidence before verdict, root cause to process change.

Lesson

After it you can...

Case: Intermittent Bring-Up Hang

Trace an occasional boot hang to a torn configuration word.

Case: FIFO Data Corruption

Trace stream corruption to staggered reset release across FIFO pointers.

Case: Reset Glitch After ECO

Explain how a late layout change reintroduced a signed-off reset bug.

Read them in any order, but read each to the end: the process change at the close of each story is the lesson that outlives the bug.

Check yourself What distinguishes the case-study method from ad-hoc debug?

Hypotheses written before evidence is gathered, each hypothesis killed by a named observation, and the fix paired with a process change so the class cannot recur.
